Ilfracombe RNLI

The Challenge

North Devon based Ilfracombe RNLI had recently taken delivery of the state-of-the-art Shannon class lifeboat, so public interest in the station was high. Their new £2.2m lifeboat was funded entirely by donations and is capable of 25 knots, allowing their volunteer crew to reach those in distress more quickly and safely than the previous boat.

The station wanted to increase awareness of coastal safety, along with highlighting the lifesaving work of their volunteer crews. This is where Panoptic came in. We have a history of charity marketing working with The National Trust and North Devon Hospice.

The New Website

The first task was to redevelop the website. This was built with the Drupal 8 CMS, which allows the station crew to easily update information on the lifeboats, crew profiles and shouts. It was built to be responsive, meaning it scales perfectly from smaller screens (such as mobiles) up to high resolution 4K displays. Great care was taken to ensure consistency with existing RNLI brand guidelines.

Virtual Tour

After the website, we completed a fully interactive virtual tour of the lifeboat station. Using our cutting-edge scanning technology, a full 3D model of the station and boats was produced. Perfect if you want to look around the boat but don’t want to get wet! From standing on the inshore D-class lifeboat to climbing down to the engine room of the Shannon lifeboat, you get a fantastic behind-the-scenes look at all the kit and tech used by the RNLI.
