Over the years, we’ve filmed a number of surf championships and competitions with Surfing England, using our fleet of drones in each. From our 1kg DJI Mavic 3 to our 4kg DJI inspire 3, we’ve always got the right tool for the job. One showcase that features drone shots heavily is the MVMT National Championships 2020. A tricky winter surf comp in rough conditions, this championship was not for the faint hearted.
Large swells on the beaches of Newquay often meant that it was not always possible to capture those all important shots from the shoreline. However, new perspectives from the skies allowed for a worry-free shoot. Switching this up also created a vacuum of creativity, achieving new tracking and close-up movement shots that otherwise would not have been possible from the ground. To compliment this, we used a water-housing to capture those low perspective shots too, as you can probably tell – we love getting in the water at any opportunity!
